Auckland City Corps Kids’ Fun Day
Our recent Kids Fun Day was a fantastic and inspiring event, themed “Wonders of the Universe”, with the message that “God is the God of the big and the small’.
The day was designed for children in our faith community ranging from primary to intermediate school age.
We were thrilled to have 26 children and 6 leaders. There was lots of excitement around the day, and it was evident from the time they started to arrive. Even though some of them didn’t know some of the other children, they quickly got to know each other.
The day began with a welcome, a game and getting to know each other.
Then off we went on our adventure to Stardome Observatory, where the children (and leaders) were amazed by the vastness and amazingness of the universe that God has created.
After returning to church, we enjoyed a relaxed lunch and got set up for an afternoon filled with teaching, learning, reflection and creativity. Children learnt that while God created the immense universe, he also made each one of us with care and a purpose.
Creative activities included making galaxy bags, making and launching bottle rockets and exploring the unique and amazing things about ourselves.
Throughout the day there was much excitement, new friendships made and Parents so grateful for the day. Some of the comments from the children as they were leaving were….
“Can we come back tomorrow…is it on tomorrow?”
“I had so much fun today. Thanks for showing us how to make the rockets”
“God must be amazing if He made everything!”
One family share a great reflection after the event…
“Now we have to say grace before every meal as we need to be thankful to God for all he has done and made”
What an amazing day!! A day and event that will need to continue, and one which I am sure will be a highlight and impact children’s lives in positive ways.
